Week 6: Lion Taming

Emorald Gray attempts one of Coach Kadath's practice drills.

(Mistakatonic University Press) - The victory over Haddonfield was a relief for Arkham coach Neal F. Guye. Did he look relieved? Hardly.

"Kenny Proctor averaged 6 yards on the ground, and 55 in the air. We got ahead 34-7, and then we just rested. That's not the kind of football I want to coach or watch."

What about Zip Robertson?

"Zip had a career game, maybe a record that will never be broken, with four blocked kicks. That's something you can tell your grandchildren about. But his eight tackles were all deep in the secondary. That's something I'll tell his agent about."

Grumpy?

"The game should have been a blowout, instead we played three quarters and then just stopped. Plus, we're going into the New Deal meat-grinder this week, followed closely by Long Beach. It's like we learned nothing against Seoul. There are no rest-stops in this schedule. It's a constant struggle from the start to the end."

"Plus, I'm going on vacation right before the game against New Deal. You'll see Coach Kadath on the sidelines for two games. He doesn't speak English, but he finds ways to communicate with the players, sometimes through Trent [kicker Henley], sometimes other ways."

Any thoughts on New Deal?

"Only bad ones. We have to expect to lose that game. Our main goal will be seeing Coach Hennig's prep and hopefully we'll be ready for him if we meet him in the American Bowl. Winning would be nice, but if we're 4-2 after the game, we'll still be in a strong position to make the playoffs. Our goal is a final record of 7-3, but if we get 6-4, with our schedule, it will be a great effort."

New Deal dominates on both sides of the ball. They are undefeated against a softer schedule, but Coach Hennig has produced blowout after blowout. Expect Arkham to go down fighting.
