Trouble for Johnson

(Mistakatonic University Press) - Arkham linebacker Richard Johnson is in trouble. Again. Arkham police Chief Andew Griffith took him into custody this morning, charging him with 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor' and 'providing alcohol to a minor'. Griffith refused comment, but it appeared that other charges were pending.

Although Arkham coaches have imposed a strict curfew at the Innsmouth practice facility, Johnson's craps games have remained popular. At least six players have been fined for breaking curfew. Others have asked for salary advances after taking losses in the games. Johnson had been warned about his activities three times prior to his arrest.

According to players who asked not to be named, Johnson elected to stay behind after the dice game ended last night. His familiar bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey remained untouched, which players said was unusual. Some assumed he would simply sleep behind the crypt of Charles Dexter Ward, a legendary and sinister figure in Innsmouth history.

Police Chief Griffith appeared at Innsmouth field this morning to talk with Johnson and the coaches about the illegal gambling. To his surprise, Johnson could not be found in the dormitory. A quick sweep of the area found him behind the crypt, nude and sleeping. The video camera beside him and the empty bottle were confiscated as evidence.

Griffith is seeking the identity of the female protrayed on the video camera. Those with information about her are asked to contact the Arkham police department. It is believed she drove to the field after 11 PM and left some time after 3 AM.

Coach and General Manager Neal F. Guye released a short statement. "We are all very concerned for the welfare of any possible or alledged victims of any possible or alledged crimes. Mr. Johnson has expressed to us that his actions, while possibly completely legal, have brought shame and disgrace to the Grave Robbers' organization. He apologizes profusely for the distraction. That is all."

Team staff insisted that Johnson had no comment, but he did make statements outside the Arkham police station. "She was eighteen, I tell you! That [bad] cop and his [bad] attitude are the only thing wrong around here!"

Johnson has a history of trouble with the law. He has been arrested three times on charges of reckless endangerment and once on charges of assault, according to New York state records. Although never convicted, his problems off the field kept him from playing with an APFL team last year.

Coaches have been very happy with his work in training camp, however. The duo of Renaldo [also Johnson] and Johnson have stunned team members with their powerful and lightning-fast pass rush. At this time, it is unknown whether Johnson will be available to play in Arkham's first regular season game.
