Free Agents Make Impact

(Mistakatonic University Press) - The Grave Robbers have signed four free agents since the rookie draft. They're all contributing.

Defensive Tackle Johathan Higgs was signed first. He's taken over a starting role, replacing veteran Johnny Hawkins. He's shown great staying power in the middle of the line, and continues to improve. The unit is full of fresh faces. Higgs lines up next to Nevin Carlson, the rookie who dropped suprisingly low in the draft. Both are learning to work with Arkham stalwarts Renaldo Johnson and Pete Frazier.

Linebacker Richard Johnson was signed next. His off-season troubles included three arrests for disorderly conduct and one for assault. Arkham was willing to take the gamble on him, and so far, it's paid big dividends. He's the subject of nearly every conversation at the Innsmouth dormitory, where the players live during training camp. His nightly dice games behind one of the crypts on Innsmouth field have been very popular with the players, forcing the coaching staff to set a strict curfew.

Cornerback Webster Cassell was signed on Friday. His slow foot speed kept him from being draft. With Arkham's difficulties in coverage, Cassell is a valuable role-player on passing downs. His great skills help keep the short routes under control.

Fullback Eli Williams was not taken in this year's draft, but caught on with Arkham as a special-teams player. He's made several deep tackles on coverage teams. He seems comfortable in his role. With Newton Newnan and Joe Waxley ahead of him on the depth chart, he's just happy to be playing in the APFL.

Sources inside the dungeon under Arkham Stadium report that the Grave Robbers may sign another free agent before the pre-season begins. The team is interested in a third quarterback to run the scout team. They aren't likely to make a trade to fill the spot, and one of the undrafted rookies would be an attractive solution.
