B A T O N R O U G E B E N G A L S #29-Baton Rouge-DL-Tyrone Haselrig Starting the draft at #29 is tough. The team did get a great offensive lineman for their #5. But they took Haselrig too early, and on a team that was already strong on the DL. Nevin Carlson would have been a better pick at DL, but they needed a player in another area. #36-Baton Rouge-HB-James Friedrich A very nice pick. The whole league waited to see how far Friedrich would fall. Since he fumbles about 7 times per game, it would have been nice to see the Bengals take an interim player like Don Jackson, but they are content with Todd Elsworth. We all fear the coming of Friedrich in 1.5 years. Hopefully his rookie improvment will be Strength or Intelligence (hopefully for me, that is). #53-Baton Rouge-QB-Steve Heart Fell very far, nice patience here. Probably better than incumbent Nick Gordon, who has Intelligence 20 and Discipline 100. #07-#77-Baton Rouge-LB-Greg Clark A great late pick. Very strong in the middle. #81-Baton Rouge-CB-Patrick Price A completely useless player, who can't cover (because his stats are too low), and can't tackle (because he's a corner, the worst tacklers in PMFB). But what can you do at #81? I would have taken FB Eli Williams. He's a recieving sub that teams will not be expecting when burly Adam Young is the starter. OVERALL: The defense is very sound, plenty of strength and speed there. That makes Haselrig a bad pick. The offense is full of questions, none of which were answered in this draft. The line is very suspect, HB duties may be by committee, and the receiving corps is flashy but has terrible hands. Even when you consider the trade for Vince Tabron, this team looks like it didn't fill many holes in the draft. GRADE: D
